
NATURE PARK PAPUK
In 2007th Papuk has, because of the geological heritage, become part of European and world associations Geoparks Geoparks and the first in Croatia - Papuk Geopark.
Geomorphological, climatic and vegetation characteristics of Nature Park Papul provides an excellent natural habitat for numerous plant and animal species. Forest vegetation covers more than 96% of the area. The dominant tree species is beech. Here live nearly all representatives of the Central European fauna, but 200 years ago this area was also inhabited by bears, wolves and lynxes. Today Papuk dense forest habitat and refuge deer, roe deer, wild boar, foxes and martens ... Papuk provide excellent habitat and many species of birds and internationally is very important area for birds. Abyss Uviraljka important wintering area for bats. Nearly 1300 species of plants (more than a quarter of the entire Croatian flora) grow in Papuk. The most endangered and protected species of plants growing on lawns and other non-forest areas.
