Papuk Geopark is the first Croatian Geopark, which became part of European and UNESCO Geoparks Network, whose main objectives of protection, education and sustainable development. A Geopark is an area with a geological heritage of expressive and strategy for sustainable economic development and promotion of that heritage for the benefit of local communities.
In September 2007. on the seventh session of the European Geoparks Network, hosted by the Scottish North West Highlands Park Papuk became the first Croatian Geopark and 30th Member of the European Network and a member of UNESCO's World Network of Geoparks.
