PROMENADE CARMEN SYLVE, OPATIJA
At the end of the twentieth century, the promenade was renamed Carmen Sylva, the Romanian queen and wife of the main sponsors decorating walkways.
Romanian king Charles, the guest villa Amalia, was lost on one occasion during his daily ride in the woods somewhere under Veprinac (probably the 1896th, during his first stay in Opatija). Enraged, the other morning, went straight to the captain, Baron Arthur von Schmidt-Zabiérowu, the explanation of why the roads are not regulated and labeled. When the wily Zabiérow discreetly complained that the fact that no money, Charles gallantly laid on the table quite a sum that would have served that purpose. The money was well spent: the promenade is completed 1,901th year.
