A.N.A. - ACADEMIA NAVALIS ADRIATICA, MURTER
A.N.A. - Academia Navalis Adriatica - 25 years under the sails! Academia Navalis Adriatica is an international sailing and seamanship school which, during the 25 years of it's existence, had over 10000 succesful course participants. The school is a member of ISSA, the International Sailing School Association.
It was founded in 1988 by mr. Veljko Barbieri, who invited the renowned Italian skipper Cino Ricci to devise a program and a working method for the school whose foremost task was (and still is) the promotion of sailing. After a careful search, it was decided that the best location for school base were the local waters of the island of Murter, which was perfect for the implementation of our programme during the whole year, and a small fisherman town called Jezera, that has a marina which is in the ACI system.
The school instructors, who are heading the course, are in charge for the programme's implementation, they've sailed thousands of miles, and their experience guarantees learning the highest quality of sailing. Over the years A.N.A. acquired the reputation and experience that make her equal to the most renowned sailing schools in the world – we proudly point out that we are a certifiedRYA training centre (Royal Yachting Association), which provides internationally acclaimed education with specially developed programmes.
The basic training programme and acquiring fundamental sailing and seamanship skills is done in seven-day courses: the Basic course, the Advanced course and the Skipper course. The education is continued with specialized courses: theTransadriatic course, the Spinnaker coruse, the Gourmand course, the Malta offshore course... Apart from that, the school contuinally developes and offers additional programmes which, with their duration and topic, try to keep our „old“ and future participants interested.
Where are we?
Our sailing school is placed in ACI Marina Jezera on the island Murter, in the heart of Dalmatia. Jezera is a small town on the southeast side of the island, which is connected to the land with drawbridge over a narrow sea passage. The town is indent in bay shaped like horseshoe which is surrounded with gentle hills. Due to its natural position the town is not exposed to strong wind gusts so its bay is ideal for docking and ship habitation. Jezera, once exclusively a fisherman town, is still known as the most important starting point for fishing Adriatic tuna.
Natural gift, beauty and indentedness of Adriatic Sea coast, something unusual and rare presents intrinsically encounter with sea.
In aquatorium of ancient waterways in touch of old Turkish, Venetian and Croatian warriors and sailors rough history has been written, whose symbols and inheritance are inwrought in its natural ambient. Closeness of two national parks, Krka and Kornati – makes special the position of our base.
Island Murter where ANA base is placed, makes southern see entrance of the national park Kornati. Kornati are the most closely distributed archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. They are spread across the surface of 320 km2 and they include about 150 islets and rocks, that is permanent or occasional above sea units. Relatively great distance from the mainland, biological richness of the marine space, pirate raids and restless land area in the past, pastures but also barren karst soil, safe shelter from bad weather at sea... – these are all reasons why Kornati throughout human history have always been both hospitable and inhospitable area. Constantly on the border of inhabitness and uninhabitness, peace and turmoil, wealth and poverty Kornati were the area of concern and interests of many cultures, and today primarily for boaters.
East of Jezera and our base, after navigating between islands and passing beside St. Nicholas fortress, we are entering a deep bay, in which is placed the old royal city of Šibenik. The core of the city is carved in stone and rocks, surrounded by three fortresses and St. Jacob cathedral which is enlisted in UNESCO world heritage list. Navigating further on, intensity of Mediterranean sun is being suited by greenery and tranquillity of estuary of the river Krka.
After sailing into Skradin, ancient Roman Skradona, you will experience one of the most vivid towns on the Adriatic Sea. We are also entering National park Krka here, rich with karst phenomena – travertine shaped sills, travertine islets, curtains and barriers, and caves through which numerous waterfalls are overflowing.
In the shade of luxuriant Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean vegetation, visitors are offered with rare possibility to directly experience the unique micro cosmos of magical sounds, lights, colours and mysterious world of flora and fauna of the river Krka.
