
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM, SPLIT
Archaeological Museum in Split, the oldest museum in Croatia, was founded in 1820th by the decree of Dalmatian government in Zadar.
The impetus for its establishment was the arrival of Emperor Francis I in Dalmatia 1818th year, when he visited the monuments of Split and Solin. The original museum building was erected in 1821. g the eastern walls of Diocletian's palace, but soon became too small for the growing number of monuments. The museum conducts regular research on archaeological sites and Salon Issa.Oko 150 000 artifacts (from prehistory, the period of Greek colonization of the Adriatic, Roman, early Christian period to the early Middle Ages and the period of Croatian national rulers) are arranged in collections.
