Croatian Maritime Museum Split was founded in 1997. as a successor to the first Split Maritime Museum founded in 1926 Military and Maritime Museum in 1960
The museum was established in 1997. g with the fundamental missions of research, collection, preservation and presentation of tangible and intangible heritage of Croatian maritime coast, from prehistory to the present. The museum is housed in first class cultural monument - Fortress Gripe, a single comprehensive preserved fortifications in Split, built in the 17th St. Permanent exhibition is designed in two parts: the Air Force and commercial marine of the Croatian people. The part of the area organized a thematic exhibition.
