Maksimir Park is located in the eastern part of the city and decorated in the style of English gardens in the area built in the heart of oak trees in the mid 19th century. The new park paths were arranged surrounded by meadows and clearings full of ornamental trees and shrubs, while the other around a natural oak forest. The park is enriched with monuments and buildings built in different styles. To date, save the Swiss House, Belvedere, Gatekeeper's cottage, Echo Hall, etc., and preserved a number of parks and statues. Law on Nature Protection has received the title of the monument of park architecture, and the Law on the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage as a protected monument. Inside the park there is also a favorite destination for the youngest residents of the city, Zagreb Zoo.
