Novalja is the tourist center of the island. Developed into a bay on the northwest part of the island, and special attractions are its beautiful sandy and pebble beaches which surround it.
In many restaurants, pubs and snack bars on the various menus, from the simplest to the chosen dishes. Terraces various bars create a special holiday atmosphere where guests can refresh and cater to the sound of music. The beaches offer lots of recreational and sports programs (slides, scooters, beach ...) Many visitors, especially younger entertain until late at night in modern disco clubs in the open next to beach.
Novalja has a long, eventful and interesting history, as evidenced by numerous archeological findings at various locations in the city and its surroundings. Among them are the three early Christian basilica from the 4th and 5 century, the remains of a floor mosaic of one of them can be seen in the Gothic church of Our Lady of the Rosary in the city center. The absolute must-see Aqueduct where the temperature is in the midst of the greatest summer heat lingers on chilly fifteen degrees Celsius. Youcan visit Stomorica - a large collection of early Christian antiquities and basilica urbana with preserved mosaics. There is also Cissa (today Caska) remains a large military camp built by the Roman army. Novalja has become a top destination for many tourists because of its location in the bay, amidst pine forests and a true Mediterranean atmosphere with the surroundings decorated with marvelous beaches.
