Opatija, often called the pearl of the Adriatic, is one of the most popular destinations in Croatia with a tourist tradition of over 160 years. The settlement developed around the Benedictine abbey of St.. James, who first mentioned the 1453rd year. Former Abbey is a village of just 35 houses situated near the church complex. It had only 250 inhabitants oriented towards maritime affairs, agriculture and fisheries.
