Ideas for weekend

Opatija, often called the pearl of the Adriatic, is one of the most popular destinations in Croatia with a tourist tradition of over 160 years. Located along the edge of the Mediterranean, in the Kvarner Bay and the mountainside Učka gently down to the sea, Opatija with its climate, beautiful architecture, quality hotels, a beautiful manicured parks and promenades provides opportunities for a pleasant stay throughout the year.

The settlement developed around the Benedictine abbey of St.. James, who first mentioned the 1453rd year. Former Abbey is a village of just 35 houses situated near the church complex. It had only 250 inhabitants oriented towards maritime affairs, agriculture and fisheries. First discovered the magic of Opatija by patrician Iginio Scarpa, who built here the 1844th was his mansion, which he named Villa Angiolina after his late wife, clearing the way for the development of tourism.

Here they stayed kings and emperors, writers, philosophers, writers, poets and musicians. Mention of Emperor Franz Joseph, Emperor William II, queen of Romania Elisabeth poet that his poems were published under the pseudonym Carmen Sylva, then the empress Sissi, writers AP Chekhov and James Joyce, dancer Isadora Duncan, the composers Gustav Mahler and Giacomo Puccini. See and be seen - for this is to Opatija.
