Split City Museum is situated in the Gothic-Renaissance palace of the noble family Papalic built during the second half of the 15th and 16th centutry.

It is one of the most beautiful historical monuments in Split, with interesting courtyard, well, loggia and great hall on the first floor with wooden painted Gothic ceiling. The best pieces of the museum collections are presented in the permanent layout on 3 floors telling a story about the development of Split and its most prominent figures from the ancient times to the 20th century. The part of the Split City Museum is the Emanuel Vidović Gallery, dedicated to the most important Split's painter of the first half of the 20th century.
