
GOSPIĆ - CITY OF LEGENDS
On the western edge of one of the largest karst fields in Croatia, Lika fields, beneath the largest and most beautiful Croatian mountain Velebit, on the crossroads of the north to the south and along the banks of three rivers, Like, Novčica and Bogdanica is located Gospić.
The first written mention of the town was recorded in a document of the 1263rd as the area along the river Kasezi Kaseg, today's coin. Gospic is like a village "Gospojina" is mentioned 1574th, as a settlement in its current form the 1604th. The foundation of the modern city are the two towers of the old Ottoman bridge on which, at the time of the Military Frontier has developed the core of the city as the administrative, military and cultural center.
An old legend says that once upon a time two princesses traveled through this area. One of them, Gospava was gravely ill, but napivši the water from the river which flowed there, heal up, and gave her the name of a character. And built his tower, which named after her Gospic. There is a legend that the tower was used in ancient times stood a small church with a statue of Mary with Jesus in her arms and that got Gospic in that name.
