
KNIN FORTRESS
It is one of the largest Croatian fortification monuments and the second largest military fortification in Europe.
The fortress was built in the 9th century, during the formation of early Croatian state. Some Croatian kings in held Knin as occasional capital while King Dmitar Zvonimir ruled contantly from it. The fortress is divided into five parts, which are interconnected. Fortress is located at 345 m above sea level and at the height of 100 m above the town of Knin, a 470 m long, and at the highest point 110 m wide defensive walls.
Knin fortress is one of the greatest Croatian fortification monuments and the second largest military fortification in Europe. It is extremely preserved in all its parts.
